When a beer is named Test Dept, how can you not go all mad scientist when it came time to making a photograph with it. Located right on the main drag in Belmar New Jersey, in a building that was a bakery for years. They used to make bread there, now they make liquid bread there.
Cans from Vault Brewing Company
I love how simple and graphic the labels are from Vault Brewing Company. In helps that the beer is good and if you go their brew pub in Pennsylvania their food is real good too. I wanted to build a photography that expanded that graphic to include a six pack. When I tried a couple of variations, one can across the top made it really pop for me.
Laniakea from Alementary
This beer bottle was so simple and clean, I wanted the photograph to mimic that and extend on it. The sleek black bottle begged to be a low-key photograph with only the silver lettering and graphic and the label lit enough to pop out.
Scotch on the Rocks Caramel from 2 Chicks with Chocolate
There’s a local chocolate shop for us called 2 Chicks with Chocolate. They create different types, but they specialize in these small chocolates with differently fillings. A few of them are drink based like this Scotch on the Rocks. So very good.
Copper Cream Ale from Zed's Beer
When you visit Zed’s Beer, you’ll hear the words “approachable craft beer”. Their beers are easy drinking traditional takes on styles with a emphasis on craft and craftsmanship. They make excellent beer and are all around good people. For this photograph, I wanted to approach the beer real close. Get tight and put the beer within reach. The copper color of their Copper Cream Ale just popped, as did it’s taste.

IPA No. 2 from Eight & Sand Beer Co
All the beer at Eight & Sand is named with railroad inspired names. The railroad played a big role in the development of the town. I wanted the lettering on the label to really pop for this photograph, so I went dark key for the image so the silver and gold graphics really stood out.
Afternoon at The Vault Brewing Company in Yardley PA
That first sip of a beer. Yum! So good. We visited Vault Brewing in Bucks Country PA and had a great afternoon. Super beers and delicious food. When you’re in the area definitely stop by.
Glorious Galaxy Pale Ale from Lord Hobo Brewing Company
and it is…Glorious that is. They named it right. Lord Hobo Brewing Company makes some seriously good beer. This can was just so black, it reminded me of the album cover in Spinal Tap. I just had to go low key get some reflections going too with plastic underneath when I created the photograph.
